The pellet gun I would like is awesome, looks cool and is not expensive.

It  is 177. caliber and shoots at an average speed of 495fps. (feet per  second) It is $79.00  Also works great with the winchester scope.

The scope is 4x32 and is $29.99.

These both will make a great gift.

These  are for hunting small animals like rabbits guinea pigs rats and  annoying crows. If you happen to get one be careful of protective guinea  pig owners.(no seriously they can be brutal) Also be careful of snakes  and unidentified flying objects. But make sure you have fun.

 Creative Kill chamber is a game that is not what it appears to be. You know the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover?" Well,don't judge this game by its name. I like this game because you have to be creative to know what to do.  It also has slow motion parts that are exhilarating. The story line is: you are going through training that teaches you how to get out of risky situations. It takes place in an enemy army base. It also challenges your speed and reflexes. You will find yourself in very hard situations. For example, you may find yourself fighting a ninja who deflects bullets. Or, you may have to get around sharp spikes.

Total Lunar Eclipse of December 21

The last lunar eclipse of 2010 is especially well placed for observers throughout North America. The eclipse occurs at the Moon's descending node in eastern Taurus, four days before perigee.

The Moon's orbital trajectory takes it through the northern half of Earth's umbral shadow. Although the eclipse is not central, the total phase still lasts 72 minutes. The Moon's path through Earth's shadows as well as a map illustrating worldwide visibility of the event are shown in Figure 4. The timings of the major eclipse phases are listed below.

Total Eclipse Begins:       07:40:47 UT
Greatest Eclipse:           08:16:57 UT

The entire event is visible from North America and western South America. Observers along South America's east coast miss the late stages of the eclipse because they occur after moonset. Likewise much of Europe and Africa experience moonset while the eclipse is in progress. Only northern Scandinavians can catch the entire event from Europe. For observers in eastern Asia the Moon rises in eclipse. None of the eclipse is visible from south and east Africa, the Middle East or South Asia.

Table 6 lists predicted umbral immersion and emersion times for 20 well-defined lunar craters. The timing of craters is useful in determining the atmospheric enlargement of Earth's shadow (see Crater Timings During Lunar Eclipses).

The December 21 total lunar eclipse belongs to Saros 125 a series of 72 eclipses in the following sequence: 17 penumbral, 13 partial, 26 total, 9 partial, and 7 penumbral lunar eclipses (Espenak and Meeus, 2009). Complete details for the series can be found at:

Acrobots are one of my favorite toys. Why? because they're acrobatics with style. They can magnetize on any thing magnetizable. They're easy to use and have cool looks. For example,they have clear skin which can be any color.(clear, blue, purple, white, yellow, green and black.) They also have clear heads.

You can make them do about anything. I have made them do stunts like some other people have done in these pictures.

The acrobots have hinges on their waist, elbows, chest and knees. They are very firm and strong. They do not break easily. All these features are the reasons why they is so expensive. Here is the down side, they cost $7.99 each. It is worth it though! So I suggest you go to thinkgeek.com and look up acrobots and order now. :)

I was a TWIZZLER! That made me the second to last height. Basically, I could get on any ride I wanted. There were a couple I couldn't go on but I wasn't interested in those anyway!
Those big, fancy death machines, I mean, roller coasters were not my style.

One of our favorite movies. . . Invincible!

Vincent Francis Papale (born February 9, 1946 in Glenolden, PA ) is a former professional American football player. He played three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL. Papale was the inspiration for the 2006 movie Invincible.
In 1974, while bartending at Max's in Prospect Park and substitute teaching at Interboro High School, he successfully tried out for the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League as wide receiver. Papale caught 9 passes for 121 yards, 13.4 average.
His performance with that team earned him a meeting with Coach Dick Vermeil of the Philadelphia Eagles after general manager, Jim Murray got him an invitation to a private work-out held by Coach Vermeil.

Papale, at 6-foot 2-inches and 195 pounds, eventually made the team, thereby becoming, at age 30, the oldest rookie in the history of the NFL to play without the benefit of college football experience (other than kickers). He went on to play wide receiver and special teams for the Eagles from 1976 through 1978. During that time, he played in 41 of 44 regular season games (regular seasons being 14 games in 1976-1977 and 16 games in 1978) recording two fumble recoveries, (including one that led to Vermeil's first NFL victory), and one 15-yard reception. He was voted Special Teams Captain by his teammates and "Man of the Year" by the Eagles in 1978 for his many charitable activities. A shoulder injury ended his career in 1979. After retiring from the NFL, he worked as a TV and radio broadcaster for eight years, then became a commercial mortgage banker.

Papale, who earned the nickname "Rocky" (after the 1976 Sylvester Stallone movie and character) while playing with the Eagles, is the subject of the movie Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg. He was also reportedly the inspiration for the 1998 Tony Danza movie, The Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon. ^[1] In addition, Papale's legend was cited as a factor in the Eagles' signing of construction-foreman/tight-end Jeff Thomason for 2005's Super Bowl XXXIX.^[2]
Diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2001,^[3] Papale has recovered from the disease, to become a spokesman encouraging people to get regular check-ups. He encourages others to be tested.
Currently, Papale is the regional director of marketing and senior account executive for higher-education marketing at Sallie Mae. He resides in Cherry Hill, NJ, with his wife Janet and two children, Gabriella and Vincent.

What does a calico cat have to do with "red"?
Calico is not a breed of cat, but an unusual coloring occurring across many breeds.

This coloring is caused by a combination of specific genetic traits. Calico coloring is a mix of phaeomelanin based colors (red) and eumelanin based color (black, chocolate and cinnamon). Cats of this coloration are believed to bring good luck in the folklore of many cultures.

Virtually all calico cats are female; a male calico is a genetic anomaly and usually sterile. Producing calico kittens through selective breeding also is nearly impossible due to unpredictable actions of genes and chromosomes when cells multiply in a feline fetus.

A calico cat must be a tri-color, with its three colors in distinct patches, not mixed as in a tortoiseshell cat. To be a true tri-color, a calico cat's colors must be:

~~> black, blue, chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, or fawn.

Clifford the Big Red Dog

Clifford the Big Red Dog is an enduring American children's book series that began being published in 1962. Written by Norman Bridwell, the series helped establish Scholastic Books as a premier publishing company.

Clifford was the runt of the litter, and was chosen by a city kid named Emily Elizabeth Howard as her birthday present. No one expected Clifford to grow, but Emily Elizabeth's love for her Saint Bernard (or Great Dane according to some sources) puppy changed Clifford dramatically.

Before long, he was over 25 feet tall, forcing the Howard family to leave the city and move to the open spaces of Birdwell Island. Birdwell is an anagram of author Norman Bridwell's last name.
Scholastic Studios produced a successful television adaptation shown on PBS Kids.

Clifford the Big Red Dog was one of several PBS Kids shows designed to teach children a number of life lessons. One principle was kept religiously: the dogs talked only when humans were not present; otherwise, they only barked.
Veteran actor and devoted family man John Ritter was the voice of Clifford.

Some sources say that the discovery of fireworks occurred about 2,000 years ago in China. The most popular legend tells that . . . .

Fireworks were discovered by accident by a Chinese cook! He was working in a field kitchen and happened to mix charcoal, sulphur and saltpeter (all commonly found in the kitchen in those days).

The mixture burned and when compressed in an enclosure (a bamboo tube), the mixture exploded.

Other sources place the discovery sometime during the 9th century during the Song dynasty (960-1279)

Some sources suggest that fireworks may have originated in India.
Firecrackers were thought to have the power to fend off evil spirits and ghosts.
Marco Polo is often credited with bringing the Chinese gunpowder back to Europe in the 13th century, although many accounts credit the Crusaders with bringing the black powder to Europe as they returned from their journeys.
Once in Europe, the black powder was used for military purposes, first in rockets, then in canons and guns.
Italians were the first Europeans who used the black powder to manufacture fireworks.

The Red Balloon is not Just a Child’s Film

The film The Red Balloon, directed by Albert Lamorisse, is, on the surface, a short movie about a young boy and a red balloon he finds. It is, on a higher level, a metaphor for friendship and a barometer for the viewer’s imagination, and inspires thought.

It is a story about a boy who finds a red balloon caught on the top of a street pole. He really likes his balloon, and carries it on his way to school. However, balloons are not allowed on the bus, so the boy must either abandon it or miss the bus. He opts to miss the bus, because who would want to abandon a friend to get to school on time? This causes him to be late to school, and since he obviously cannot bring the balloon into school, he gives it to the janitor to keep until he is out. The janitor gives it back at the end of the day, and the boy walks back home, only to find that his mom does not want the balloon in the house, and throws it out the window. Most balloons would fly up and be lost forever, but this balloon is the boy’s friend. It stays hovering outside his apartment window until morning. These are the events of just one day, and this film spans several.

Whether you are young or young at heart, you can instantly understand how the boy feels about his balloon and why he makes the choice to let the balloon use the umbrella on his way home from school, rather than keep himself dry.

What is a Blue Moon?

On Thursday, May 31, 2007 there is going to be Blue Moon!

But what is a Blue Moon?

This one is surprisingly tough to answer, because of a recent redefinition of when there is a

blue moon.

The word month originally stems from "moonth" or one rotation of the moon.

However, the lunar cycle is shorter than the modern solar calendar of months, so occasionally a year will have thirteen full moons in it instead of twelve.

The extra moon is the "Blue Moon".

So which one is the spare? For the last 50 years we have taken a blue moon to mean the second full moon in the same month. However, in the May 1999 edition of Sky and Telescope Magazine, this definition was identified to have been a mistake, made by them in 1946.

The original Farmer's Almanac definition of a blue moon was when a season had four full moons instead of three. Secondly (and this is the really strange part) the third full moon of the four was the one considered the extra one and not the fourth.

Finally, the year itself was counted from Yule to Yule (December 25th to December 25th) and not from January 1st to January 1st.

So, after all this, the Farmer's Almanac definition of a blue moon is: the third full moon in a season which has four when counting from December 25th to December 25th (whew!).

Mary and the Moon

Why is the moon the perfect symbol for Mary?
This is what I often ask college, senior and junior high school students.

Some answers are: "It is beautiful", "it shines in the darkness", or "because it is round" (I don't understand that last one, but it is surprisingly popular) .

None of these answers captures the reality of why the moon and Mary have one thing so wonderfully in common, so I changed the question to:

Where does the moon get its light?

"From the sun!" Everyone hurries to yell out that answer. The moon is a rock, not a star, and so it does not produce its own light at all, though compared with all of the other stars of night, the moon is the sky's brightest luminary. No, the entire glory of the moon, her splendid radiance, is not her own, but is rather the sun's light reflecting off the surface and onto us. The moon is gloriously luminous because it reflects the sun's rays.

I ask again,

So why is the moon the most perfect symbol for Mary?

With this new realization the answer I was looking for clicks in their minds as hands are raised and impatient voices call out: "Because Mary reflects her Son!"

And this is the whole of it. . . . few are holy enough to do all things for God's greater glory. Mary is not a saint in spite of her Son or instead of her Son, she is so glorious to the Catholic mind and heart because she is so much like her Son. Her light will always be borrowed light, reflected light because she has most fully surrendered herself to God in saying "Yes" to the conception, birth, and raising of the Son of God.

One of my favorite heroes is Don John of Austria, the last knight of Europe, who led Christian Europe's Holy Alliance in 1571 to defeat once and for all time the Turkish naval threat on the Mediterranean Sea. He was simple, courageous, humble and fierce and I celebrate his memory with honor. Ultimately, I honor Don John of Austria because he was a Christian soldier who fought with nobility. Everyone honors great deeds and great people.

How much more so should we honor the one who's "yes" brought about the incarnation of the Son of God? The Father is a gentleman; he lowered himself to ask his little creature to assent to his plan and allow his Son to be conceived and born and live a human life. We need to realize that the greatest honor belongs to the greatest people who do great things for God's glory. Many are victorious in giving themselves honor and winning glory, but few are holy enough to do all things for God's greater glory. And this is why we turn our minds to Mary.

No Catholic worships her, for worship (or adoration) belongs to God alone, Father, Son and Spirit. However, Mary was the first disciple, the greatest daughter of Israel and the living icon of the Church who never stopped, never once dimmed in her reflection of the Son of Righteousness, of her Son. This is why she not only deserves honor, but she deserves the highest of honors, the greatest of venerations. What makes her so great is that she is so transparent and whenever you look at her with the eyes of faith, hope and love, you see Jesus.

To honor her as the Mother of God is to worship Jesus Christ as the Son of God. To venerate her as the Immaculate One is to adore him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

So pray the rosary tonight realizing that in honoring Mary you are worshipping God.

Red Moon

Eclipses of the Moon offer us the chance to enjoy a lovely naked eye spectacle in the heavens as well as a wonderful opportunity to teach our children about the beauty and wonder of Nature.

The study of the moon is intoxicatingly rich in its history, legend and beauty. Take, for example, the Full Moon. The month of August's full moon's name was known as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. Full Moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon. When's the next Full Moon?

The Full Moon names applied to the entire month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the moon names, but in general, the same ones were current throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior. European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names. Since the lunar month is only 29 days long on the average, the full Moon dates shift from year to year. Here is the Farmers Almanac's list of the full moon names.

• January Full Wolf Moon - Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January's full moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next moon.

• February Full Snow Moon - Since the heaviest snow usually falls during this month, native tribes of the north and east most often called February's full moon the Full Snow Moon. Some tribes also referred to this Moon as the Full Hunger Moon, since harsh weather conditions in their areas made hunting very difficult.

• March Full Worm - As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full moon of winter.

• April Full Pink Moon - This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month's celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

• May Full Flower Moon - In most areas, flowers are abundant everywhere during this time. Thus, the name of this moon. Other names include the Full Corn Planting Moon, or the Milk Moon.

• June Full Strawberry Moon - This name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . so the full moon that occurs during that month was christened for the strawberry!

• July The Full Buck Moon - July is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Another name for this month's moon was the Full Hay Moon.

• August Full Sturgeon Moon - The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.

• September Full Harvest Moon - This is the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October. At the peak of harvest, farmers can work late into the night by the light of this moon. Usually the full moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later across the U.S., and only 10 to 20 minutes later for much of Canada and Europe. Corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice the chief Indian staples are now ready for gathering.

• October Full Hunter's Moon - With the leaves falling and the deer fattened, it is time to hunt. Since the fields have been reaped, hunters can easily see fox and the animals which have come out to glean.

• November Full Beaver Moon - This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.

• December The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon - During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low sun.

Red Doors

We looked around cyberspace and found some interesting explanations for RED DOORS. We are not promising that these are 100% correct but they sure are interesting.

In Catholicism, the red door on a chapel symbolized the blood of Christ, and other martyrs, to signify that the ground beyond the door (inside the church) was holy, and a sanctuary from physical and spiritual evils.

Red doors are favorites of Christians because in the Old Testament, doors of homes were smeared with the blood of a lamb for Passover. The Lord promised he would passover those homes and not visit those with the 10th plague (killing the firstborn male in each house). So, red doors signify that safety lies therein. It is a welcome.

Many Anglican (Episcopal) churches boast red doors for theological reasons. This goes back to the Middle Ages, when the north, south and east doors were painted red, symbolizing the Blood of Christ, to indicate that churches were designated Sanctuary, where anyone was safe from danger.

Some other mainline Protestant churches, such as Lutheran churches, have red doors as Wittenberg Cathedral, where Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses, had red doors, and by tradition, this marks such churches as Reformed churches.

According to The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan - In the earlier days of the church it was understood that a soldier could not pursue an enemy that had entered through the red doors of a church. The red doors were a symbol of refuge and sanctuary for all people who entered. To all concerned the red on the doors signified the blood of Christ that had been shed so that all who came to him could be saved. Anyone who passed through those doors was safe as long as they stayed behind them.

Over time, Christian people began to see the red doors of the church as symbolizing not only physical refuge and safety, but spiritual refuge as well. The blood of Jesus, and of the Church's martyrs, that the red doors of the church symbolized, would protect you from evil, both physical and spiritual. The red doors spoke to the world of holy ground that existed inside those doors, space that had been purged and made clean by God's Holy Spirit.

In China, it's tradition to paint the front door red before the new year, to invite good luck and happiness.

In Ireland, front doors are painted red to ward-off ghosts and evil spirits

Another school of thought holds that doors are painted red to indicate the mortgage has been paid off!

Feng shui advice: If you'd like to bring new energy to your home, painting your front door a different color can help. Red is often recommended because in feng shui the color red is associated with success and prosperity, but that may not be the most appropriate choice for everyone.

(Seriously, I'm not kidding) This discalaimer goes with the above advice: "A few words of caution about red: In traditional Chinese feng shui, there are certain unlucky "star combinations" that can be activated by the color red. It's possible your house has one of these combinations at the front door. Also, each year (using the Chinese calendar), one of the eight directions or the center of the house will be an inauspicious place to use red. In order to find out if either of these situations is an issue for your home you will need to do a compass-method analysis of your home. Or, use the "try it and see" method: paint your front door red and see what happens. If your luck takes a big turn for the worse (illness, unexpected major expenses, loss of a contract or job, etc.), run back to the paint store and repaint the door another color."

I usually buy a new purse every year or so. I have never invested in a really expensive one because I am too frugal and too hard on my purses. They are strictly utilitarian to me. I need them to be useful.

This year I want a red purse! I told Pablo and he isn't all that excited about the prospect of shopping for a purse with Mom but he is willing to go with the program since it is, after all, RED!

I perused the web and found some possibilities . . . til I saw the price! I will look for more affordable versions!

The first I found is actually a "pet tote." It is ~ $ 60.00.

But it looks great, doesn't it?!

I think either one of my little pups would actually love it, too!

I sulked in silence for a few moments til I realized that this kid was absolutely right!

I found a purse within 15 minutes that looks very much like the Leather Tote with the Silver Buckle that sells for ~ $128.00.

It was the winner and we spent a whopping $12.98. Pablo and I are loving this whole RED thing. Today we found out that there is a great (RED) CAMPAIGN that we are including in our side bar. (Thank you, Michael, for the heads up).

Pablo will be posting on the weekends. He is looking forward to it! Oh, and, this weekend we really are painting our front door red. (You can translate "we" into -- Dad. God bless him!)
